Widening the pavement on the south side of High Street

Widening the pavement on the South side of Brentford High Street (in the town centre) was one of the recommendations of the community vision for Brentford High Street. Responding to a letter to local councillors from Brentford Community Council and Brentford Chamber of Commerce, on 22 January 2009 Mike Jordan, Director for Environmental Services, LB Hounslow in a presentation to Isleworth and Brentford Local Area Committee advised:
"Suresh Kamath provided notes asking whether this would be fundable or sensible without a development scheme. He pointed to the issues related to the proposed realignment of the High Street and suggested that appropriate scale and possible phasing of development would be considered as part of the development process. He acknowledged that there could be some potential for this but that it would be limited to the section between the Magistrates' Court car park and the Half Acre junction. The impact on the statutory undertakers' equipment was unknown but was likely to be extensive and expensive. The potential future redevelopment of land south of the high street would remove frontages on the south side and provide scope for widened footways."
The Steering Group are now seeking a committment from the Council as to when the viability of the proposed scheme between the Magistrates Court and Half Acre Junction could be investigated properly and a cost attached to the community's proposals. Funding could then be sought from Transport for London.
