May 10: Discussion, Organizational and workflow strategies - Nicole

  • We will share and discuss our strategies for working with files, scripts, and data that are shared among various analyses and projects
  • Please prepare a brief description of your strategies (e.g., Do you have a separate folder for each analysis? Do you keep your data all in one common folder? Do you have duplicate files? Are your scripts long and detailed or brief? Do you store functions in separate script files? Do you save workspaces and histories?)

May 17: Discussion, A brief introduction to LaTeX - Florian

  • LaTeX is a flexible document preparation system used for typesetting documents. It is an alternative to programs such as Word and requires the use of programming language. From Wikipedia: "The typesetting system offers programmable desktop publishing features and extensive facilities for automating most aspects of typesetting and desktop publishing, including numbering and cross-referencing, tables and figures, page layout and bibliographies."
  • Florian, a novice LaTeX user, will show us some of what he has learned so far.  He is interested in learning more, so experts in LaTeX are welcome!
  • In a future meeting, Florian will show us how he uses Sweave with R and LaTeX to prepare documents integrating text and graphical R output.
