Sprint Coordinators
- Joel Burton: Plone trainer, consultant, and Plone Foundation Board member.
- Jon Stahl: Plone consultant, Plone Foundation Board Member, and organizer of the 2006 Seattle Conference
Goals
The goal of this sprint is to learn about developing things in Plone, and to learn about how to sprint successfully.
We'll take a straightforward task--we're leaning toward "How to add dynamic visual effects and better UI ("KSS") to PloneHelpCenter" as our topic. This will help make the documentation faster, prettier, and more easily navigated. We'll teach you KSS (a great skill for site builders and developers, and one that doesn't require any JavaScript experience!). We'll teach you how to work in teams ("pair programming"). We'll teach you how to check in your changes to the "collective". And we'll teach you how to have fun while helping out our project with a critical task!
Audience
- Graphic designers and other people who can help us design the UI
- People who are interested in giving back but don't know where to start
- People who don't know how to use any kind of version control products to "check code in"
- People who want to learn about KSS and interface design
- People who know HTML and CSS but do not neccessarily know Python or Plone-specific technologies
- Everyone else that wants to help out, including experied Plone developers who want to help "mentor" new developers

- Rik Belew, rik at cogsci dot ucsd dot edu. an academic computer scientist, digging into zope/plone. KSS-ifying plone help sounds like a great target to me. i can only be there saturday.
- Harito Reisman, harito at haritomedia dot com. Experienced designer, print and web, recently mostly designing themes for Plone that get integrated by developers. Would love to be able to integrate myself. I can only be there on Saturday.
-
Scott Greiff, scott at greiff dot org. Experienced web developer on the Microsoft tech side of the industry, but total newbie when it comes to deep customization of Zope / Plone. I'm looking to pick up more experience working with Plone and getting familiar with, and more active in Plone Sprints. I'll be at the conference and at both days of the Sprint. I'm fluent in Japanese if that helps with the team at all.
- Patrick Waldo, patrick dot waldo at gmail dot com, I'm a python programmer, but I am new to using Plone. I hope to use the conference and the sprint to kick start my understanding and ability to create a nifty plone site.
- Jason R. Coombs, jaraco at jaraco dot com, I'm a long time Python programmer and interested in the core libraries emerging from Zope/Plone. I'm interested in investigating the possibility of leveraging ctypes to simplify unified installation and/or minimizing compiler dependencies. I'll be there both days.
-
Sid Koul, skoul at newenglandwild dot org. I've developed a Plone 2 theme and a number of Plone 2 content types using Archetypes. I'm interested in learning about sprinting and KSS. I can only be there Saturday.
-
David Simmer, david at simmerdesigns dot com. In my first seven months with Plone I've built three Plone 3 themes from the ground up, assisted in migrating a few Plone 2 products, and developed a new product involving Archetypes, custom content types and dependencies. I'd like to learn more about magic KSS and deepen my understanding of Plone architecture. I can be there for at least the first part of Saturday.
- Jeff Kunce, jjkunce at gmail. Long time python programmer. Lots of Plone 2.x archetypes development. Starting to learn Zope3. Haven't done any community work since late '90s python stuff. Ready to jump into sprinting and see what I can contribute (and learn!)
