Join us for a theming sprint!

October 11 and 12, just following the 2008 Washington DC conference! Join us also on #plonetheme on the 11th and 12th to participate remotely.

Day 1: Report-Out

Apologies for missing names here -- will fill in tomorrow!

Official Task List:

http://www.openplans.org/projects/ootb-plone-themes/tasks-for-the-conference

Suggested things that might happen:

  • Workshops on theming for Plone 3.0 (caring and sharing)
  • Skinning of 3.0 themes
  • Brainstorming / prototyping new technologies that might help the theming story
  • Documentation creation and cleanup for the theming area
  • Development of a themes.plone.org website that will allow us to test a 3.0 theme in real time.
  • Development on gloworm (Eric Steele)
    • Things I'd like to work on in preparation for an actual release:
      * viewlet manager overrides so I can get rid of the monkeypatch
      * writing some new KSS/Javascript to pull more information out of the page
      * browser compatability issues
      * general UI primping and usability preening
      * brainstorming about what else it should do
      * documentation

      Don't worry that you don't know what you're doing, because I sure as hell don't. I'm continuously amazed that this thing works half as well as it does.
  • Work on helping to plan the future of Deliverance (word is, we're starting from scratch on developing a theming layer to help all themers, a divergence from the current state of Deliverance)
  • Write an automated testing script for OOTB themes, or develop more tests for themes in general.
  • Start work on videos for theming. Possible resource: http://css-tricks.com/videos/css-tricks-video-25.php
  • And much, much more... Feel free to make suggestions!

Signups

Sign up here if you know that you'd like to be part of this. We're at a tough moment in terms of theming for Plone, and now is a great time to contribute and invest in the future of Plone. Make sure you also specify your area of interest so that we can plan for that.
