PloneConf2008 Meeting Notes
last modified November 1, 2008 by kehorak
Marketing Sprint discussion - Saturday:
- competitive analysis is needed, including white papers for certain people
- ie some systems not really 'Open Source', yes you might get the source code, but in reality one company controls all.
- need more elevator pitches and 'talking points' on how to sell Plone, so we are not conflicting
- Also need good 'what is plone' material (high level and detailed level we have, but for middle ground you need to look it up on wikipedia)
- currrent statistics kept update on ongoing basis
- Need stats on health of Plone market, books etc, media alerts and goals (ie we want X% more media alerts per year)
- Karl Horak already working on some of this
- comparison of open source licenses (some are like buying a car without a steering wheel)
- need for presentation materials and facts to be used in others presentations
- Slide Deck as a starting point for presentations
- schwag (ie free stuff). Need to establish a Plone store where community members can express their pride at being Ploners.
- regional contacts for media inquiries
- this week in plone newsletter to sing the praises of important Plone news
- Migration tools could be good
- e.g. setup of transmorgrifier that could easily migrate users content from Sharepoint/Alfresco/Drupal/etc to Plone
- This is how MS won the spreadsheet war, providing help for Lotus 123 users switching to Excel
- Reviewers Guide to Plone
- What is new and cool in the new version of Plone
- How do you use Plone to see these cool new things?
- Central calander for events/expos that people are going to, or that Plone could/is represented at
White Papers
- some people prefer to read about products in this form
- sometimes a tendency to want to cut and paste information so making it available will support people pitching Plone in various settings
Plone Presentation Outline
- What is Plone?
- Who's Using it?
- Ease of Installation
- Rapidly Test
- Works with Microsoft and with UNIX-compatible operating systems
- Easy to Host
- Free Demo
