Birds of a Feather

Plone Speed-Dating

proposed by: David Hostetler (irc: dahoste)

5:30p Wed 3/12 in Ballroom AB

Providing a dedicated opportunity for those in attendance with too much work to meet those in attendance with not enough work.  All roles.

  • Established contract entities looking for sub-contractor candidates and vice versa
  • Customers with development wishes that they might not be able to justify sponsoring (i.e. paying for) by themselves
  • Consulting entities with project opportunities that they're not able to pursue -- looking for peers who can step in as 'trusted referrals'.
  • ?
  • According to the powers that be - the plone ecosystem is 'drowning in work'.  Let's get those who are drowning into the same room as those who most certainly aren't, and do some human resource load-balancing.  At the very least it's a 'shake hands' opportunity that might catalyze future symbiotic relationships.

Plone in Education

Proposed by cjohansen.

The Symposium follows close on the heals of the Ploneability Higher Ed conference, increased traffic of the Plone Education List, the Plone4Universities project, and other initiatives. This BOF is being organized to continue the process of prioritizing future activities in collaboration, goal setting, and becoming good citizens of the Plone community.

  • Anyone else interested in a FacultyStaffDirectory BOF?
    • I'm very interested in the FacultyStaffDirectory BOF - interested in seein what it is and seeing if it could be modified to meet my needs for a county government with 1300 employees and 36 departments. - Andy Brush
  • I''m interested in helping the Plone in Education BOF (Are we still thinking Plone4edu?). KurtB

March 12th, 5:30pm in Breakout Room A

Proposed by Jeanne Spicer, PSU Population Research Institute; Brian Panulla & Joe DeLuca, PSU Solutions Institute

Those interested in using Plone as collaborative workspace for academic/scientific research projects.    Tools for proposal writing, project managment, publications, statistical analysis, budgeting, appropriate security for human subjects, etc.  Goals:

  1. Identify existing 3rd party products useful to research e.g. FacultyStaff, ATBibliography, etc.
  2. Develop strategies for using core Plone e.g. What's the best way to collaboratively write a document?  What customizations to the workflow make sense?
  3. Recommend new products for specific problems e.g. managing email, statistical analysis.
  4. Security, security, security

Jeff Pittman is interested. I'll using Plone for a collaborative project involving botanical fieldwork, specimen mapping and annotation, and identification, all in preparation for scientific presentation and publication.
