Sorrento, Italy (near Amalfi and Naples)
The sprint will be held at Hotel Mediterraneo, a beautiful four star hotel in Sant Agnello di Sorrento. The location is only 15 km from the famous Pompeii excavation, and a 15 minute boat ride from the Island of Capri. Take a look at the hotel webcam to see a bit more.

Why

For Plone
We love Plone, but we also know that it needs to continue improving. Sprints like this one are critical for the advancement of the Plone application and framework. The purpose of this sprint is to work on topics of interest for the next iteration of Plone (Plone 3.5). Some important topics that are likely to be a focus of this sprint include:
The sprint will also be a good place to discuss non-technical aspects of Plone and open source software generally, and to share our experiences as open source developers and users. We will discuss how we can enlarge and enrich the Plone community, and how we can make Plone both better and better known.
To this end, Xavier Heymans of Zea Partners will be giving a short presentation on efforts to promote Plone/Zope at the EU level and beyond. This presentation will cover two studies:
  1. Flossimpact report

A study of the impact of OS on EU economy. Xavier will present a summary of the study findings and discuss the potential for Plone.
  2. EU research on Open Source

Zea is involved in 3 EU research projects: Qualoss, Flossmetrics and SQO-OSS. The research will focus on OS software quality and metrics on Open Source Communities. The presentation will include a discussion of the potential impact for the community and users, and suggestions on how to involve the OS community and transfer expertise.

For You
A beautiful seaside location, great food, great wine, great company during a beautiful time of year. The opportunity to learn more about Plone and interact with its vibrant developer community. Besides, it feels nice to contribute. Sorrento is also famous for Limoncello, if you like that sort of thing.

How …

many people will be attending?
You can keep track of th attendees on the ((list of participants)). Registration for this event is now closed.
do I get there?
See ((directions to the hotel)) from various points of origin.

What …

else will there be to do besides programming?
The hotel has private access to the beach for those who like to lounge in the sand. There's a marina close by, so we may take a yacht tour of the coast and surrounding islands. Some of the more nautically inclined sprinters may wish to rent a sailboat. It's also not far to Pompeii if you'd like to see some impressive ancient ruins. We're quite sure you'll manage to find a few things to keep yourself entertained.

Who …

will be attending?
Plone developers at all levels, this event will be about working, learning, and interacting. It is a great opportunity for new developers to see what the community and development process are all about, and for core developers to learn a few new tricks, and for everyone to work on some interesting and significant features. People with all levels of Plone development and skinning knowledge will be in attendance.

What …

is getting done at the sprint?
Keep up with the work being done on the ((sprint projects)) page.
