Draft Environmental Impact Statement and the General Project Plan for Atlantic Yards.

The Atlantic Yards project is one of the largest developments ever
proposed for the city, yet because it is state controlled, it by-passes every
single city review process and the opportunities they allow for the public to help shape the project.
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project, hundreds and hundreds of pages long, was released during the height of summer — with the hearing set for August 23 when many are on vacation and the affected community boards are not even in session.
A New York State agency, the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), allowed a 66-day review period for this project, while the general review period is for 90 days. The call to extend the review period fits in with the Campaign's goal of more meaningful participation by the public in land use review.
