This wikipage is a research space for any useful information about composting toilets. If there is enough interest, I will set up an email list for people who want to exchange information about this topic, and keep this wikipage up to date.

Information specific to using waterless composting toilets at festivals and other events:

  •  Natural Event is a compost toilet project for events which began at Folk, Rhythm, and Life in Victoria, Australia.
  • The ThunderBox Collective have been building composting toilets for festivals and events in the UK for more than 9 years.
  • Boom Festival in Portugal began composting humanure in 2006 with a trial pod of 20 toilets, and in 2012, provided 186 composting toilet units 

 

Potential projects for kiwi compost toilet champions

  •  The Earth Building Association combined their efforts to define a national standard for earth buildings, which has made it much easier for people to get regulatory approval to use earth building techniques around the country. Perhaps we could get a working group together to define a standard for compost toilet systems?
